Microsystem. - the activities and interactions that occur in the person's immediate surroundings (Korsmo, 2012).
My 3 little "sisters" and I.
My family is the biggest part of my microsystem. Although they pick on me and I get frustrated with them a lot, I can't overlook how much they have supported me through the years. When my parents got divorced, my aunt and uncle filled the hole I felt in my life; they have become a huge support in my life, I see my cousins as sisters, and they mean the world to me. My grandparents have always been there to get me what I need. My mom and I have had a rocky relationship in the past, but I know that she will always be there to support me. She calms me down when I'm stressed, and she helps me get through everything I have to do. I have a really big family, and I definitely wouldn't trade them for anything.
My #1 best friend, Colleen and I.
My friends are a very important part of my microsystem. Not only are they a big support system for me, but they're also an influence on me. My friend Melissa is the person who got me to join the track team in eighth grade and it turned out to be something I really loved and stuck with until I graduated high school. Colleen and I lived together our freshman year at Western. We were randomly matched; she was from Texas and I was from Everett. We hit it off instantly, and over time she became the biggest support I have in my life. Colleen listens, encourages, and consoles me whenever I need it. If not for her, I wouldn't be here today.
Each of my friends bring out the best in me and I'm more happy and energetic around them.

My school and major program is also part of my microsystem. Being in the human services major, especially being in core, has helped me discover who I am and what I want to do with my life by going through a lot of thought-provoking activities. Being at school is Bellingham has made me more comfortable with being an authentic person. People in Bellingham are very accepting of everyone, so it has helped me feel comfortable being me.
