Butterfly Effect.
Sabby and I.
There have been many great impacts on my life that have caused butterfly effects. I think the greatest one to this day was when I chose Western Washington University over Montana State University. I didn't know it at the time, but deciding to go to Western opened up so many opportunities for me. At the time, I picked Western simply to please my family.
When I moved to Western, I was placed in Higginson Hall with three girls that I did not know. Clara and Cori were from Tacoma and Colleen was from Texas. Clara and I quickly bonded, being the only two Christians in the room. Clara had an older brother that goes to Western as well, and he told Clara about the INN, a campus ministry. Clara started going to the INN, and a couple weeks after school started, she convinced me to go with her. Going to the INN lead to a few different butterfly effects.
My first week at the INN, I was introduced to a girl named Sabby. Sabby and I became friends very quickly. She is very mother-like; she takes care of everyone around her and supports them physically and emotionally. She is also someone I can count on to help me when I get overwhelmed and stressed. As of spring quarter of my first year at Western, I was considered a junior. I was then very stressed trying to find a major. Sabby sat with me day after day helping me look through all my options. We looked at Art, Journalism, Photo-Journalism, Sociology, and many other departments. Finally, she told me about her major: Human Services. It didn't take long for me to decide that Human Services is what I want to do.
Going to the INN also gave me the opportunity to be involved. Last year, they held multiple serve days where students would go out to a project they chose for the day. Last year, I worked with Habitat for Humanity. This gave me experience serving people. That experience made me want to serve more in as many ways as I could. I started helping out at the INN more. I painted posters, helped organize events, and reached out to students on campus. During spring break, I got a chance to go on a mission trip through the INN. I went to Black Mesa, Arizona with a fantastic team. While I was there, I was able to not only serve the people on the reservation, but I was also able to serve God along side them. Coming back from that, I had the opportunity to become a leader at the INN. As a leader, I'm meeting a wide variety of people and I'm getting to work in so many different ways.
